SUMMARY:Leaning In: A faith response to the 2024 election
DESCRIPTION:September 14\n9 am-noon\nFirst Congregational Church\nParish Hall\n444 E. Broad St.\nMore Information and Registration\nCan Be Found HERE\n  \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nIn partnership with the Spiritual Life and Learning Center (SL&LC) and the Interfaith Association of Central Ohio (IACO): Join us for this interactive workshop where we learn how to listen to each other\, even when we hold strongly differing opinions. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThese are divisive times. But do they need to be? As people of faith\, we can take the lead in engaging with others when we don’t see eye to eye… and doing so with respect and civility. \nWhile we believe in the separation of church and state\, we also believe that elections are matters of faith. We can hold both of these truths. \nThe Interfaith Association of Central Ohio\, The Spiritual Life and learning Center and The Spirituality Network are working together to help us prepare for the upcoming November election and learning how to live with the results.

SUMMARY:Thursday at Ten: Spiritual Explorations
DESCRIPTION:Thursday at 10\n\nEvery Thursday \n10-11:30 am \non Zoom \nThursday’s at Ten will once again be meeting beginning Thursday\, September 12 on Zoom. Over many years this group has read\, viewed\, studied\, and met with a number of inspiring authors and speakers on a variety of topics. As we explore  areas of  spirituality and religion as well as current topics such as relating to others\, being your authentic self\, and being in this world in a kind and understanding way\, we hope to inspire each participant through open discussion and dialogue. \nWith the divisive nature of our country and the upcoming elections\, our first book will be I Never Thought of it That Way by Monica Guzman. This book may remind many of us of our session in Faith and America Politics prior to the 2008 Presidential Election\, when living our faith while staying true to our values often collided with our understanding of other perspectives. \nOur first session will be an intro to the year and setting the stage for our reading of Guzman’s book. We hope you can join us! \nFacilitated by Connie Johnston. \nAny Question\, please email Jen Bratka\, Spiritual Life & Learning Center\, Program Administrator \n\nPlease register HERE to receive the Zoom Link.

SUMMARY:Introduction to the Enneagram
DESCRIPTION:Saturday\, August 17\n9:30 am – 12:30 pm\nBurkhart Chapel\nFirst Community South\nRegister HERE\nThe Enneagram is a dynamic blueprint of human personality that reveals how we organize experiences and find meaning in our lives. It describes nine distinct patterns of attitude and behavior and reveals many reasons why we think and behave the way we do. Knowledge of the nine personality styles of the Enneagram provides a foundation for a better understanding of ourselves\, and it promotes compassionate relationships by understanding the needs and perspectives of everyone we encounter.\nPresented by Connie Frecker and Lisa Bueche of the Enneagram Institute of Ohio.

SUMMARY:Conversation with Paul Knitter
DESCRIPTION:Spiritual Life & Learning Center presents:\nPaul Knitter\, author of\nWithout Buddha\, I Could Not be a Christian\nA 4-week series\nOn Zoom\nThursdays\, April 18-May 9\n10-11:30 am EST\nRegister HERE to receive Zoom Link\n  \nBeginning Thursday\, April 18 and continuing until May 9\, we welcome Paul Knitter to our Thursday at 10 group to discuss his book Without Buddha\, I Could Not be a Christian. \nFrom the publisher\, “Without Buddha I could Not be a Christian narrates how esteemed theologian\, Paul F. Knitter overcame a crisis of faith by looking to Buddhism for inspiration. From prayer to how Christianity views life after death\, Knitter argues that a Buddhist standpoint can encourage a more person-centered conception of Christianity\, where individual religious experience comes first\, and liturgy and tradition second. Moving and revolutionary\, this book will inspire Christians everywhere.” \nPlease consider purchasing his book from our partner\, Serenity Book Shop. Doing so supports a local\, independent book store. \nSchedule of topics and discussions: \n\nApril 18-Nirvana and God (Chapters 1-3)\nApril 25-Jesus and Buddha (Chapter 5)\nMay 2-Prayer and Meditation (Chapter 6)\nMay 9-Making Peace and Being Peace (Chapter 7)
